Former President Donald Trump suggested that under the standard by which he faces racketeering charges in Fulton County, Georgia, for contesting the 2020 presidential election, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams should also be indicted for contesting elections they lost.
“Hillary called me up and conceded,” Trump told Tucker Carlson in the interview released Wednesday night on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, just before the first Republican 2024 presidential debate.
“Now the word is that [President Barack] Obama said, ‘You have to do that.’ But she called up and totally conceded,” Trump added. “But now, every time you see her on television she’s saying … she’s challenging the election.”
Although Clinton, then the Democratic nominee for president, publicly conceded to Trump in 2016, she later referred to her former opponent as an “illegitimate president.”
“So that would mean that she should be indicted, but that would mean also that Stacey Abrams in Georgia should be indicted, because she still thinks she won the election for governor” in 2018, Trump added.

Abrams has admitted that Republican Brian Kemp defeated her in Georgia’s 2018 election for governor, but she also has claimed that “the game was rigged against the voters of Georgia.” During a campaign event in Virginia in 2021, Abrams said, “I’m here to tell you that just because you win doesn’t mean [you’ve] won.”
“She never recanted,” Trump added, referring to Abrams.
Last week, a grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia, returned a 41-count indictment against Trump and 18 co-defendants, focusing on his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in the Peach State. Trump faces 13 charges, including racketeering and conspiracy counts, for making “false statements” regarding election fraud.
Critics of the indictment, such as Hans Von Spakovsky, a senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, say that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has criminalized free speech regarding the presidential election. (The Daily Signal is The Heritage Foundation’s news outlet.)
Carlson asked Trump whether he suspects Abrams will be indicted and face charges of the kind Trump faces in Fulton County.
“Of course not, she won’t be [indicted],” the former president said. “The Democrats don’t get indicted for things like that.”
Trump, who made the remarks in the 46-minute interview with Carlson released Wednesday night, is expected to turn himself over for arraignment in the case Thursday.
Georgia State Sen. Colton Moore, a Republican, has called for an investigation into Willis over the charges against Trump.
