Pelosi ordered to give up privileged Capitol office

Ex-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who lost the post when the GOP took the majority in the U.S. House in the last election, has been ordered out of a privileged office in the Capitol.

Many members of Congress have offices not in the Capitol, but in adjacent office complexes.

But Pelosi, a Democrat, was allowed to remain in the privileged location when the Republican majority took over.

Now, however, she's been told to vacate by acting House Speaker Patrick McHenry, a Republican from North Carolina.

The Daily Caller News Foundation reported the move came via email just hours after eight Republicans voted to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

They were joined by every Democrat in attendance in the 216-210 vote.

"Please vacate the space tomorrow, the room will be re-keyed," an email from the House Administration Committee to Pelosi’s staff said, according to a report in Politico.

McHenry, chief of the House Financial Services Committee, was McCarthy’s first choice to serve as speaker pro tempore in the event that he was forced out.

On social media, Pelosi said, "Sadly, because I am in California to mourn the loss of and pay tribute to my dear friend Dianne Feinstein, I am unable to retrieve my belongings at this time."

The Washington Examiner noted the order essentially was McHenry's first move as speaker pro tempore.

Pelosi was absent to Tuesday's vote on House leadership.

A vote on a new speaker is expected with in a few days.
