No retreat, no surrender Sound off on stand-your-ground laws They're a license to kill for macho gun-toting vigilantes They should be repealed Using deadly force, when safely retreating is an option, is morally wrong -- yet these laws allow it They make it easier to commit murder and claim self defense Oh, great -- if you're getting whipped in a fight you started you can just pull out your gun and shoot the other guy Telling angry people the law will support them if they refuse to back down increases the chance of an altercation turning deadly They give people inexperienced with firearms a false sense of their ability to defend themselves against seasoned criminals I believe both Trayvon and Zimmerman thought they were standing their ground against a threat -- tragedy followed I support such laws, but only within residences Whatever you think of these laws, it has no relevence to the Zimmerman case -- you can't retreat when your head is being beaten into the ground Given the greater crime rate in many minority neighborhoods, these communities are the major beneficiaries of stand-your-ground laws Police officers who shoot violent attackers are regularly exonerated for using deadly force -- civilians should be treated the same An armed crime victim has no obligation to let his attacker try to take his weapon away and use it on him An armed society -- that has no obligation to retreat from the threats of thugs -- is a more polite society Other View Results Loading ...
