Airports in sanctuary cities could see customs inspectors leave, putting end to international flights

Those airports inside “sanctuary” cities, where local rules, regulations and politicians protect illegal aliens, even criminals, could be in for a surprise.

They could see their customs inspectors leaving.

That’s important because those inspectors are the ones who are required to be on site for international flights to land, and passengers and cargo processed.

No inspectors, no international flights.

According to a Bay Area report, that would result in “major economic consequences.”

An online report suggested airports possibly in line for such actions are JFK in New York City, LaGuardia, Newark, Los Angeles, Chicago’s O’Hare, San Francisco, Seattle, Logan in Boston, Philadelphia, Portland and Denver.

The action was discussed recently by Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, but President Donald Trump had raised the idea earlier.

Mullin said just this week plans are being considered to stop customs processing at airports in cities that do not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, though no formal policy has been announced.

The report noted that the U.S. Travel Association was alarmed, stating, “U.S. Travel believes such a move would have devastating consequences for the travel industry and communities that depend on international visitation.”
