Fury has erupted online as Americans learn that Sacramento City Councilwoman Mai Vang, a Democrat seeking election to Congress, routinely turns her back on the U.S. flag and refuses to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

“DISGRACEFUL BETRAYAL,” said Brigitte Gabriel, a New York Times best-selling author and founder of ACT for America. “Native-born Councilwoman Mai Vang, whose Hmong family escaped communist genocide, poor living conditions, and slaughter in Laos thanks to AMERICA’s lifesaving refuge, turns her back on the U.S. flag and rejects the Pledge of Allegiance.”

“This betrayal exposes a shocking INGRATITUDE makes her utterly UNFIT for any public office. REMOVE HER IMMEDIATELY.”

“DISGUSTING,” wrote LibsofTikTok. “Her election is next week. Don’t let this anti-American lunatic anywhere near Congress.”

On Feb. 4, 2025, Vang celebrated on Facebook why she’s taking her seemingly anti-American actions, saying: “And this is exactly why I choose not to recite the Pledge of Allegiance during every council meeting. As much as I love this country, I use that moment to ground myself – to center our communities and remind myself of the injustices and harm that continue to affect so many, both locally and across the globe, under this nation’s influence.

“We must not tune out – they want us to become numb to the realities we see in the news – it’s part of the plan to keep us complacent. But instead, we resist. We surround ourselves with loved ones, take time to rest, remain vigilant, and stay steadfast in the fight for equity, justice & humanity. We got us. I love you all.”

Steve Maviglio, a Democratic political consultant in Sacramento, told the California Post Vang’s actions are “completely disrespectful to veterans and their families.”

“It’s ‘Patriotism 101,’ you say the Pledge of Allegiance even if you don’t agree with everything,” Maviglio said.

“You can’t say the Pledge of Allegiance – that’s how extreme you are? Come on.”

Vang is trying to oust longtime Democrat U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui in the June primary. The councilwoman has been polling close to the incumbent and slightly ahead of Republican Zachariah Wooden.

Is the news we hear every day actually broadcasting messages from God? The answer is an absolute yes! Find out how!
