Republican Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert endorsed Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie Friday despite President Donald Trump’s efforts to primary challenge him.

Trump launched an aggressive effort to unseat Massie by endorsing his opponent, Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, and has harshly criticized Massie over his criticisms of the Iran war, his opposition of the big, beautiful bill and his push to release the files surrounding Jeffrey Epstein. Four days before Massie’s primary, Boebert said on X that Massie “loves America and is fighting to save it,” while also praising Trump in the same statement.

“Below is my friend Thomas Massie. He loves America and is fighting to save it,” Boebert said. “Also below is my friend and President, Donald Trump. He’s put his life on the line to save this great country. I support both of these men. I’ve worked with both to preserve freedom and liberty. And if that makes you angry, bless your heart.”

Massie voted against the one big, beautiful bill in June 2025, stating he was worried about its contribution to the national debt. He also stated that Trump’s strikes against Iran in June 2025 were unconstitutional. Massie also opposed the ongoing war in Iran, highlighting on May 4 that Israel “forced our hand and dragged us” into the war.

In March, Trump called Massie a “complete and total disaster” during a rally in Hebron, Kentucky. He also referred to Massie as a “moron” during the National Prayer Breakfast in February while the congressman led the effort to release the Epstein files through a discharge petition.

Boebert backed the discharge petition put forth by Massie and Democratic California Rep. Ro Khanna. Trump pressured her to remove her name from the petition, though her signature remained on the document.

In February, Massie was one of three Republicans to vote to end the blockade on challenging Trump’s tariffs. He was also the only Republican to vote against the rule for the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which he argued suspends House rules and allows spending bills to come to the floor without a day’s notice. He said he would vote for the legislation on the House floor.

Over $25 million has been spent on advertisements in the primary race, making this the most expensive primary in U.S. House history. The Israel lobby spent millions on advertisements supporting Gallrein, with AIPAC and the Republican Jewish Coalition spending between $5.7 and $9.8 million to boost Gallrein.
