Democrats’ lawfare against President Donald Trump multiple times was based on “facts” that had the patina of possible truth, that is, they were allegations made and while unlikely, had not yet been disproven.
Like the claims in Russiagate that he conspired with Russia during the 2016 election, claims that later were debunked entirely.
Now a new report from the Federalist reveals the leftist party’s agenda to attack Trump became so virulent that members even used claims that were known to be false to base a new investigation.
The report said it involved a “subcomponent investigation” of Crossfire Hurricane, the Russian collusion hoax.
The new scheme treated “Trump as a criminal subject based on already-debunked information linking him to Russia, according to a Trump administration official.”
That inferior investigation, called “Oxferd Comma,” had at its foundation the unfounded claim that “the newly elected president, was acting as a Russian asset when he fired James Comey on May 9, 2017,” the report said.
A Trump administration official confirmed in the report the case was opened despite the fact that “almost everything in the FBI’s possession at that point had debunked or ruled out that Trump or his campaign was colluding with Russia at that time.”
The FBI moved on with its new wild claims in May 2017 as Robert Mueller was being appointed to investigate the Russiagate events “as though it were legitimate, despite the fact that the Clinton campaign-funded Steele dossier had already been debunked,” the report said.
FBI Special Agent William Barnett, who worked with Russia hoaxer and disgraced former Special Agent Peter Strzok on Crossfire Hurricane, earlier had delivered an interview where he said the FBI found no evidence of Russia collusion with Trump, or his former advisers Michael Flynn, Carter Page, and George Papadopoulos.
But the FBI launched Oxferd Comma anyway.
The Federalist reported a document from that time period said, “The FBI is opening a full investigation based on the articulable factual basis that reasonably indicates that President Donald J. Trump may be or has been, wittingly or unwittingly, involved in activities for or on behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation which may constitute violations of federal criminal law or threats to the national security of the United States.”
The document, released by the Trump White House this week, continued, “The goal of the investigation is to determine if President Trump is or was directed, controlled by, and/or coordinated activities with, the Russian Federation in a manner constituting a threat to the national security of the United States and/or a violation of federal criminal statutes. In addition, this investigation will also seek to determine whether President Trump or others yet to be named obstructed and/or conspired to obstruct any associated FBI investigation.”
An administration official told the Federalist the White House will release a timeline of events and information known by the FBI that led to the decision to investigate, even though an FBI spreadsheet in February 2017 showed the Steele dossier was “either disproven or internet rumor or could not be corroborated.”
The Federalist said, “The entire body of evidence that existed prior to the May opening of the Oxferd Comma investigation should have weighed against launching the investigation in the first place, but the FBI moved forward.”
The document claims there were discussions Trump had with Comey prior to April 2017 which alleged Trump asked Comey to “resolve” the Russiagate conspiracy.
The Federalist cited Trump’s firing of Comey, and explained the FBI made the presumption that could imply “the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation was a factor in President Trump’s decision to terminate Comey. … Instead, the breadth of evidence — known to the FBI at the time and now known to the public — shows that Trump was trying to stop a corrupt investigation from continuing and Comey was unwilling to comply.”
Comey, of course, later faced accusations he threatened Trump with his messaging online of “86-47” in which “86” means to get rid of and “47” stands for Trump, the 47th president.
