Despite recent calls from some Democrats to defund local police departments, with some even calling law enforcement in general “white supremacist,” one officer in Nashville, Tennessee, is being hailed a selfless hero for talking a suicidal man away from the edge of a bridge from which he threatened to jump.
Lt. Mike Holtz is seen in police footage coaxing the man away, eventually asking, “Can I shake your hand?”
The man did not extend his hand but gave Holtz a hug as he wept.
“We’re here to love you,” Holtz can be heard saying.
“You can have those uncomfortable conversations and ask people how they’re doing,” Holtz later told a reporter from a local news station, “and that’s going to help you help your friends and family.”
