With the Senate in recess and elections fast approaching in November, a Republican congressman says there are two ways the upper chamber can pass the SAVE America Act requiring U.S. citizenship and proof of identification to vote.
Appearing Monday on Fox Business, U.S. Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., explained the “two options.”
“Number one,” said Fine, “we put Save America in the reconciliation bill that we sent to the Senate. That would only take 50 votes. So there’s one way to get it done.
“And here’s another way. We attach the Save America Act to something even more popular, the idea that members of Congress can’t insider trade. And when we did that, we not only got every Republican vote, we got a dozen Democratic votes in the House. It was the first time we’ve ever seen a Democrat vote for Save America.
“So maybe that’s what they try in the Senate. Do ‘You Can’t Insider Trade plus Save America.’
“There’s two paths to get the job done. The point is they just need to pick one and do whatever it takes to get it done.”
