The Oversight Project is ramping up its fight against government weaponization.
The Washington-based watchdog is launching a law firm to defend targets of politicized lawfare and investigate investigators conducting seemingly meritless probes across the executive and legislative branches at the federal and state levels.
The firm will also aim at the state bar association level if law licenses are targeted or other sanctions are imposed on lawyers for political disagreements.
President Donald Trump was the subject of a special counsel probe in the discredited Russia collusion investigation during the first half of his first term. After his first term, the Biden administration’s Justice Department appointed another special counsel, while elected Democrat state prosecutors also brought charges against Trump or sued him. The investigation expanded to the Trump campaign and White House staff.
Congressional Democrats, who impeached Trump twice during his first term, have vowed multiple investigations if they retake the majority in November.
“Under the banner of The Oversight Project, I am opening a new law firm that I will lead to combat government weaponization of all types, but especially abuses of congressional and state legislative branch oversight, perversion of bar discipline processes, and securing the dismissal of bogus criminal indictments,” Jeff Clark announced this week in a post on X.
Clark, a former acting assistant attorney general and himself a target of lawfare, is recruiting attorneys for the program.
“We already have a small team of dedicated lawyers with Article I, Article II, and/or Article III branch experience at the federal level and state government experience as well,” Clark wrote. “You would join them and me in this important effort to turn our country around. We will be expanding our size and footprint significantly.”
He said the firm is seeking applicants “at any stage of your career, who are patriotically and publicly spirited and are fed up with lawfare, barfare, weaponization, and efforts to turn the law into mechanized Marxism on the move, and who want to see the legal system reformed to consign that nonsense as quickly as possible to the discarded refuse and circular files of courts, bar administrative apparatuses, and regulatory agencies.”
Donald Trump Jr., the president’s son, endorsed the project on X, writing, “Good stuff. Important work.”
The Oversight Project posted, “Evil lawfare needs to end.”
Adding, “We are here to make sure they can’t pick apart our friends and allies again for simply standing for an American First agenda.”
