The Democratic candidate for a legislative seat in North Carolina with a history of violent rhetoric and social media posts is getting slapped down by her party’s leaders a few days after her disturbing posts became widespread.
Shelly Headen’s incendiary posts began to come under scrutiny last week.
The N.C. House Republican Caucus shared a Facebook comment from the Democrat in which she wrote: “I think our only hope is an attack on U.S. Soil … preferably Alabama, Louisiana … where the stupid people live.”
“It is unclear whether Shelly would prefer ISIS or China to attack the United States, but it’s clear she wants an attack,” the Republican Caucus commented.
In 2024, in response to former Vice President Kamala Harris winning the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination, Headen tweeted: “I’m so excited! Ready for the MAGAs to die off!”
That same year, in response to a post on an anti-Trump Facebook page asking, “Why is it that some of us can see what is going on in the world and others can’t?,’ Headen replied: “Maybe they need to experience sexual assault so they can experience what Trump’s victims feel.”
According to a report in the News and Record, Headen can’t recall posting the violent rhetoric.
“In a moment, I may have written that. I don’t remember,” Headen told the paper. “I’m sorry. That’s all I can. I’m just really sorry.”
A statement reported by the Assembly and attributed to Headen was considerably less repentant: “I’ve sacrificed myself just like Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross, and Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln and all the people that put themselves out there to sacrifice for our country. If a few angry moments on social media are the end, then so be it. MAGA will keep winning if we continue with not standing up for what’s right.’
Some news outlets are reporting that the Democrat posted a photo of herself at the Dachau Concentration Camp site in Germany overlaid with the text: “Visiting Dauchau [sic] Concentration Camp in Germany … This is where Trump supporters belong.”
Headen clams that the image is authentic, but not the accompanying text.
“I think that one was (artificial intelligence) because I don’t know how to put white letters over a picture,” she said.
A report at Breitbart noted: “Headen says she is a CPA and business owner ‘running to restore human decency,’ an ironic statement after saying political opponents should be in concentration camps while posing and smiling in front of ovens at a Holocaust memorial site.”
X users pointed out the offensive nature of the Dachau image:

Kristan Hawkins remarked on X, “NC Democratic House candidate Shelly Headen’s rhetoric is absolutely vile. Fantasizing about fellow countrymen’s violent and cruel deaths is derangement. Violent rhetoric from the Left continues to grow in America, and it must be called out before someone else gets hurt.”
A statement from the Guilford County, North Carolina, Democrats referenced the concentration camp image along with other posts the party called “completely indefensible and unacceptable.”
The party said that “a spot on the ballot does not entitle any candidate to the support of our party organization.
“Effective immediately, the County Democratic Party is formally withdrawing all financial, operational and organizational support from Shelly Headen’s campaign for NC House District 62. We will not expend party resources or volunteer efforts on behalf of her candidacy.”
It’s currently too late for Headen’s name to be removed from the November ballot, but she reportedly is considering dropping out of the race for a state House seat. She faces state Rep. John Blust for North Carolina’s House District 62.
