The world of possible GOP nominees for the 2028 presidential race already has high-profile names, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Now there’s an ex-governor who wants to be in that mix: Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who already has run twice, and lost twice.
“Once you go through the thought process of convincing yourself that you can be president, and then the next step that you should be president, that doesn’t leave your brain,” he explained, in a report in the Hill.
Christie, for a time, supported Trump, but opposed him in the 2024 primary.
He’s raising the possibility of his options because he’s concerned “if we do a lot of losing six weeks from today,” in the midterms.
“So, am I looking at it? Look, anybody who comes up here, anybody who comes up here and has ever run for president and not won and told you they’re not looking at it again is lying. …,” he said.
His comments came at the Granite State Summit on Responsible Gaming.
“So, the way I look at this is, if I’m going to go back home to my wife and say, ‘I know you may not believe this, but third time is the charm,’ like, I better have a real theory,” the former governor continued.

Christie said his wife’s response was: “Chris, I want to see the path.”
Various predictors say, as usually happens, Republicans will lose in November, as the president’s party mostly loses ground in the midterms, and the GOP holds only a very narrow margin in the House.
The report said, “Vice President Vance has long been seen as the GOP heir apparent, and generated buzz when he gave a closing-night address to the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention earlier this month. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also seen his stock rise, and Trump has appeared to float both men for the post in the past.”
Christie ran in 2016 and 2024.
A report posted at the Gateway Pundit noted Christie was “considered to be something of a firebrand Republican back in the early days of his governorship, mainly because he did not back down from the liberal media.”
Now, however, the report said, “he is a part of it, serving as a contributor at ABC News.”
“Who exactly does he think would vote for him for president? It makes no sense,” the report said.
It continued, “Newsflash for Christie: There is no path. The Republican Party has changed, the country has changed, the electorate has changed. It is impossible to see Christie even making it through a Republican presidential primary at this point. What is he thinking?”
