PALM BEACH, Florida – CBS News is coming under fire for deleting and then rewriting its own social media post on Florida U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon concerning the Democratic Socialist’s answer on whether or not Cuba is a dictatorship.
The question posed by Miami correspondent Cristian Benavides to Nixon was: “Do you consider that Cuba is a dictatorship?”
Nixon responded: “That is what people have told me. I have never been to Cuba, and so I will have to take their word for it.”
In the network’s original post on X, it stated: “Asked whether Cuba is a dictatorship, Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon, who is challenging Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, declined to say.”
Nixon herself blasted CBS late Monday night, indicating: “It’s disappointing to have to say this, but CBS News, this is a serious failure of editorial reporting. I clearly state in this clip that while I have not personally been to Cuba, I have spoken with Cubans who have described it as a dictatorship, and I believe them. To claim I declined to answer the question is categorically false. That is not journalism. It is misinformation.”

CBS then deleted its original post and replaced it with a rewritten message, saying: “Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon, who is challenging Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, was asked whether Cuba is a dictatorship. Here’s what she had to say.
“‘That is what people have told me. I have never been to Cuba, and so I will have to take their word for it,’ Nixon told CBS News’ @cbenavidesTV. Nixon also criticized the decades-long U.S. embargo on Cuba and said she supports returning to Obama-era policies.
“Editor’s note: A previous version of this post did not accurately portray Rep. Nixon’s answer. It has been deleted.”
Journalist Laura Loomer, an adviser to President Donald Trump, noted: “Wow. CBS News deleted their original tweet and wording to run cover for Angie Nixon after she refused to call communist Cuba a dictatorship.
“This is pro-communist election interference by CBS News. Shameful,” she added. “We all have ears. We heard her defend communism.”

Other comments include:
“Florida mental patient/Democrat Angie Nixon won’t call communist Cuba a dictatorship. Pathetic CBS deleted the clip and rewrote it to protect her. Fake media running cover as usual for open communists while pretending they’re neutral. Vote red.”
“CBS isn’t reporting the news anymore, they’re protecting the narrative. Classic propaganda behavior.”
“It’s not that they can’t get facts rights, it’s that they choose not to. That’s the crux.”
“I am somehow dumber after listening to this.”
