Actor Russell Brand has been convicted by a court in the United Kingdom of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

He has denied the charges.

And he was acquitted of multiple additional counts.

A report at Fox News confirms he was taken into custody and is to be sentenced within days.

The 51-year-old was accused of offenses for events that happened between 1999 and 2009.

Sky News said he admitted being “reckless” and using his fame to pursue sexual relationships, but insisted that the encounters were consensual.

He has denied forcing any of the women to engage in sexual activity against her will.

His wife, Laura testified during the trial, “When I met him, I was aware that he liked women, and I was aware toward the latter half of that year that he was engaging with other women. … I was not interested in having a relationship with him if he was sleeping with other people. I was invested; we both had told each other we loved each other, but it was clear it was difficult for him to be monogamous.”

They married, split, then remarried and now share three children.

She said Brand was “caring and kind, a wonderful father to our children, and an amazing, attentive husband.”

Various women testified in court about encounters at a bar, a hotel, a radio station and more.

Brand said they events were during a “time of promiscuity” but always were “consensual.”
