Ron DeSantis: Failure to stop flow of foreign workers key reason GOP took a shellacking in midterms

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose state largely was impacted only nominally by Democrat and Democrat Socialist gains in the 2026 midterms, says the problem was that Republican senators wouldn’t act.

He specifically cited their refusal to address concerns about the H-1B visa program. That was set up ostensibly to allow foreign workers into the U.S. if there was no one available domestically with a particular expertise.

In reality it is a pathway for huge corporations to hire tens of thousands of foreigners to work at lower wages and replace American workers.

DeSantis, in an interview with Laura Ingraham, said Americans were frustrated with the lack of work by Republican senators.

“Why haven’t we done immigration?” DeSantis demanded. “Shut off H-1B visas?”

“Why haven’t we codified Trumps immigration executive orders? Why haven’t we stripped jurisdiction of federal courts over deportations?”

He said, “There are so many things that could have been done.”

He said the midterms were a rebuke by voters on both sides of the aisle to Congress and the president.

He said Republicans, especially in the Senate, never showed any interest in doing great things for conservatives.

Social media was aflame with criticism about the lack of work on related issues, including the H-1B visa schemes that have been used to cost tens of thousands of Americans their jobs. Sometimes they have been forced by employers to train their foreign, and lower-cost, replacements.
