There’s planned, from June 25-July 10, a 16-day nonpartisan series of events in Washington called the Great American State Fair, a recognition of the 250th birthday celebration of the United States.
At the National Mall in Washington, it is to recognize all 50 states and the nation’s territories with live music, carnival rides, activities, demonstrations and more.
Scheduled to appear, as announced, were Martina McBride, Flo Rida, Vanilla Ice, C+C Music Factory, Milli Vanilli, the Commodores, Morris Day, Bret Michaels and more.
But some of those now have dropped out, and a commentary posted at Fox News explains why.
“Trump Derangement Syndrome struck again this week, as somehow something as pure Americana as the nation’s 250th birthday State Fair, planned for the Washington Mall next month, became mired in controversy and liberal grievance.”
Columnist David Marcus wrote that among the dropouts are Morris Day, the Commodores and Martina McBride because, as explained by another dropout, Young MC, “The artists were never told about any political involvement in the event. And despite the claims by the organizers that the event is nonpartisan, SPIN magazine describes it as Trump-backed.”
Of course, it would be an oddity for a sitting U.S. president not to be supportive of a such an historic national celebration.
Marcus noted, “This is almost admirable in how much ignorance and misinformation is bunched into just a few words. Shockingly, Spin magazine has it wrong: This is not a political or a Trump event. It is run by a bipartisan commission who these artists chose to humiliate.”
He continued, “Liberals, of course, are celebrating as they do every time they try to ruin things for normal Americans just living their lives, and McBride and Vanilli get to be brave heroes in their eyes for a few days.”
His own perspective is that those dropouts can “go to hell, get on a plane to China, perform there and not come back.”
The commentary continued, “For the America-hating socialist Democrats, our 250th anniversary of colonization, racism and oppression should be commemorated by slam poetry about how terrible our nation is, not early 90s pop anthems. One can almost hear Greta Thunberg saying, ‘How dare you!?'”
He explained the concept of a state fair, and how it marks a “rite of passage” for millions of Americans – not in major cities.
“The idea behind America’s state fair was to give the middle of the country, the people nobody listens to or pays attention to, a couple of weeks in the limelight, a ferris wheel, games of chance and nostalgic music acts. But no, our progressive betters won’t have it. The good news is that all of these music acts which have dropped out are very easily replaced.”
The Commodores claimed, “Our music has always been our voice and we choose not to publicly affiliate with any single political party.”
McBride claimed that the project actually is not “nonpartisan.”
Bret Michaels, of the band Poison, claimed, “What was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of. Concerns have also been raised regarding the safety of my fans, band, crew, family and myself, including threats that are completely unfounded and unforgivable.”
Fab Morvan, the surviving member of Milli Vanilli, said he’s not quitting.
“I will be performing at The Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C. at the National Mall on June 26th, as a part of The I Love The 90’s Tour,” he said. “I am here to entertain and unite people, not divide them. Let’s celebrate life & music and take a trip down memory lane. I feel honored to be a part of the Great American State Fair as it will celebrate the 250 Year Anniversary of America with so many other accomplished artists.”
Spokeswoman Rachel Reisner, of Freedom 250, confirmed that the events being set up by the organization are, in fact, “nonpartisan.”
It is “focused on our signature celebrations and events that honor our history and engage all Americans — welcoming all who share our goal of commemorating this milestone in a way that uplifts and unites America.”
In fact, there are both Republican and Democrat members of Congress who are commissioners for Freedom 250.
None of the dropouts apparently have been able to articulate a “partisan” issue, but the fact is that Donald Trump is president and is in the White House for the year of the anniversary and Trump Derangement Syndrome, the visceral and unreasonable opposition to anything Trump, has been expanding like a wildfire among leftists during his second term in office.
