While Democrats have promised to make D.C. and Puerto Rico additional states in the Union should they take control of the federal government, President Trump Monday told a Fox News anchor he is “seriously considering” making Venezuela the 51st state.
According to Fox correspondent Bill Melugin, in a phone call Monday with anchor John Roberts, the president mentioned making Venezuela a part of the U.S., noting that “Venezuela loves Trump.”

Fox cited Venezuela’s massive $40 trillion in oil reserves as a compelling reason for Trump to annex the Latin American country.
Anna Kelly, the White House principal deputy press secretary, told Roberts on Monday regarding the potential addition of Venezuela: “This is a president who is famous for never accepting the status quo. He is always considering a host of options to improve our country.”

Since Trump’s second term began, he has talked about bringing in Canada as the 51st state and later just the province of Alberta, which is scheduled to vote on leaving the nation of Canada.
