The U.S. Department of Justice has put a bull’s-eye for investigators on a state official’s confession that her system allowed 400 non-citizens to vote in U.S. elections.
“This is unacceptable and illegal!” Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general for civil rights, wrote in a social media statement accompanied by her letter to New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill, who just this week admitted the huge blunder – 6,600 noncitizens registered to vote and 400 of them actually voted.
Social media immediately delivered a reminder of the significance of every vote: “No biggie NJ just had 400 illegal votes 2008 Al Franken defeated Republican Norm Coleman by 312 2004 Christine Gregoire defeated Republican Dino Rossi by 133 votes 1998 Harry Reid defeated Republican John Ensign by 428 votes.”

Dhillon confirmed the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division will review New Jersey’s “unlawful dilution of American votes.”
“Ensuring that U.S. citizens’ votes are not illegally diluted by noncitizens’ votes is of paramount importance. We therefore write to formally request additional information to assess New Jersey’s compliance with various federal statutes, as provided in our July 7, 2026, letter to the lieutenant govewrnor,” Dhillon told Sherrill.
Cited were the American Vote Act of 2002 and the National voter Registration Act 1993.
Among other things, the names and addresses of the 6,600 are needed, as well as when and where the 400 voted.
The governor blamed it on software, but social media disbelieved her: “Computer code did it. That’s a lie. It’s not possible. Lying to law enforcement, in this case the DOJ itself, is a crime punishable by prison. Not good.”
“People belong in PRISON. THIS WAS NO SOFTWARE GLITCH. The software does exactly what it is told to do. Somebody told it to do it and it did it. Period. Full Stop.”
WorldNetDaily reported when Sherrill admitted the blunder but described it as no big deal because “fewer than 400” actually cast illegal ballots.

Sherrill, a Democrat, said the mistake happened during the application process for driver’s licenses and ID cards.
Thousands confirmed they were not citizens but were given voting rights in the state anyway.
The reaction from the White House wasn’t a surprise. Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said, “Democrats and their media allies have repeatedly said it is impossible for noncitizens to register to vote, let alone cast a ballot. Time and again, they have been proven wrong. As President Trump has said, there is nothing more important than the integrity of our elections. And this latest incident underscores the absolute necessity of the SAVE America Act.”
A commentary at The Federalist pointed out how Sherrill had changed the subject while announcing the criminal activity to criticize President Donald Trump’s credibility.
The commentary said, “That level of cognitive dissonance is astounding even for a deep blue state governor.”
Citing President Trump’s recent nationwide address regarding election integrity, the Federalist noted, “The president warned of vulnerabilities in the U.S. election system and released declassified intelligence community documents to prove it.”
And, it pointed out, “Local election officials and watchdogs have for years warned the Democrats who control New Jersey government that lax voting laws would lead to noncitizens popping up on the voter rolls. Still, the Associated Press carried water for a fellow Democrat traveler trying to hold on to a rapidly collapsing narrative.”
Former Gov. Phil Murphy in 2018 signed New Jersey’s law automatically registering New Jersey people to vote when they apply for an ID or driver’s license, the Federalist said. Then the Democrat signed a law allowing illegal aliens to get a driver’s license. “What could possibly go wrong?”
