The records the government holds on Robert Mueller, who was for a time the chief of the FBI and then more prominently was a “special counsel” investigating Democrat allegations that President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russia, are being sought in a federal court case.
The claims of “Russiagate,” those leftist allegations of Trump campaign links to Russia during that election, were cooked up by Hillary Clinton, that election’s failed Democrat nominee, who wanted to distract American voters from a scandal over her decision to post government secrets on an unsecure computer server in her home, evidence has shown.
The Democrats hoped, but failed, to use made-up documents like the “Steele dossier’ to destroy Trump’s campaign.
Mueller was a special counsel who, after the fact, looked into those claims by Democrats, further disrupting Trump’s first term in office.
Now government watchdog Judicial Watch has sued under the Freedom of Information Act the Department of Justice for the late Mueller’s records. He died earlier this year.

The action was brought in federal court in Washington after the DOJ declined to respond to the watchdog’s request for details.
“During his tenure, the FBI significantly expanded its domestic surveillance authorities. Among other powers, the bureau made extensive use of expanded authorities under the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001, including National Security Letters, which allowed the FBI to compel the production of financial, telecommunications and internet records without prior judicial approval while often prohibiting recipients from disclosing the requests,” Judicial Watch explained.
Then he was added as a special counsel onto the FBI’s investigation called “Crossfire Hurricane,” also know as “Russiagate,” into unsupported claims of Trump campaign-Russia links.
Mueller’s investigation concluded that it “did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities,” Judicial Watch said.
But then later John Durham, another special counsel, found the FBI failed to uphold its mission of “strict fidelity to the law” when pursuing Crossfire Hurricane and found that the bureau lacked sufficiently corroborated information to justify opening a full investigation.
President Trump has called for the declassification of all materials regarding that investigation.
“The American people deserve a full accounting of Robert Mueller’s record—from the FBI’s dramatic expansion of surveillance powers after September 11 to the abusive special counsel investigation targeting President Trump,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The Justice Department should immediately release every record concerning Mueller so Americans can judge his work for themselves.”
Judicial repeatedly has pursued court cases in Freedom of Information disputes in connection with the “illicit targeting and other abuses of President Trump and his associates.”
Those “abuses” happened both under the administrations of Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
