‘For the sake of the public’: Watch Tiger Woods learn his fate for flipping his own car

STUART, Florida – Golf legend Tiger Woods may be a master when it comes to driving a golf ball, but the champion will not be able to drive a car for the next five years.

That was the outcome of a plea deal reached in Martin County, Florida, Wednesday morning in the wake of Woods’ rollover crash in March on Jupiter Island, Florida.

Woods did not speak to reporters as he walked into the courthouse with his girlfriend Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump, Jr., son of President Donald Trump.

Ryan Gaydos at Outkick reports: “Judge Darren Steele said the state amended a charge to Local 1 reckless driving – second offense, adjudication of guilt that carried a $1,000 fine. The second charge was amended to a careless driving citation. Each charge will carry a five-year driver’s license suspension that will run concurrently.

“The move came five months after the legendary golfer was involved in a rollover crash that led to charges of driving under the influence and refusal to submit to testing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges at first.

“He was initially set to have a hearing at the Martin County Courthouse next week but a change of plea hearing was put on the books for Wednesday morning.

“In March, Woods was traveling at a high rate of speed on Jupiter Island when his Land Rover clipped a truck and rolled onto its side. He managed to crawl out of the vehicle without any injuries. He told a deputy officer that he was looking down at his phone and changing a radio station when he hit the truck.

“Woods agreed to a Breathalyzer, which showed no signs of alcohol. However, authorities said he refused a urine test. A sheriff’s office report said deputies discovered two pain pills in his pocket and showed signs of impairment.”

Judge Steele stressed to Woods: “I want you to understand the [prohibition] of driving is for the sake of the public. There are no exceptions.”

“If you were to drive for any reason at all, you would go immediately back to jail.”

At the time of the rollover, Woods claimed he was on the phone with President Trump when he was confronted by a police officer, according to TMZ footage.

“Yeah, I was just talking to the president,” Woods said.

Jim Gray, a sportscaster and Fox News contributor, said Wednesday of the legendary athlete who has had numerous surgeries, “The problem is the pain.”

“In terms of Tiger, you’re really in a Catch-22. If you don’t combat the pain, you’re just going to be walking around, and it’s horrible. It’s hard. So it leads to these addictions and it leads to having to become dependent upon. And so hopefully, going over to Switzerland and going through the rehab, that that has helped and hopefully there is something there that can help this pain.

“Because when you have surgeries on your neck, your back, your knees, and it’s constant and it keeps going on, you’re looking for relief. And that was the case with Tiger Woods, and he just couldn’t find relief.

“Now getting behind the wheel is beyond problematic. It’s outright dangerous and puts other people in peril. So now he’s not going to be able to drive. This is kind of ancillary, but I would also wonder if he’s allowed to drive a golf cart. He’s probably gonna have to have a caddy or a driver drive his golf cart as well now just in terms of if it’s legal or not but the appearance of that.

“So whether or not he can get back onto the golf course, I think that most fans would love to seem him play again, but everybody is pulling for Tiger just to be healthy and well. He’s given so much to the game.”

Woods has a history of driving incidents. In 2021, a rollover crash in Rolling Hills Estates, California, almost cost him his leg. In 2017 in Jupiter, Florida, he fell asleep behind the wheel of his running car at 3 a.m. Pain and sleep medications were found in his system, according to a toxicology report.
